Traveling to the U.S.

Some travel tips for your first entry into the U.S. as an F-1 Student.

Do not forget to pack the following documents in your carry-on luggage:

  • Passport
  • F-1 visa
  • Form I-20

Important to Remember

  • You cannot enter the country more than 30 days before the program start date indicated on your I-20.

  • You cannot enter the country after your program start date on your I-20 unless you speak with the International Student Services Office.

  • Make sure the officer stamps you correctly at Customs and Border Protection (CBP).  The stamp should say “F-1 D/S”.

  • If you are traveling by car, it is very important that you get out of the car and speak to a CBP officer.  They should give you a paper I-94 card stapled to your passport.
