Permission to Take Courses at Another Institution

Once matriculated at MMC, students are expected to complete all of their degree requirements at the College. However, under certain circumstances, it may become necessary for a student to take courses at another institution. In such cases, students must be pre-approved to do so. Only students in good academic and disciplinary standing may request permission to take courses at other accredited institutions to fulfill specific degree requirements.

Note: First year students in their first semester at MMC cannot apply for PTTC.

Note: If you are planning to take a Natural Science course at another institution please review the requirements of our Natural Sciences department via this link and obtain prior approval for the course by submitting responses to the questions below on this page.

Note: If you are a graduating senior who is planning to take courses during the summer to complete your program, you will need to also submit the Special Request for Permission to Participate in Commencement Ceremony Form.

I have a grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher.

The institution I plan to attend is regionally accredited (this information should be on their website). MMC reserves the right not to award credits if classes are taken at an institution that is not regionally accredited.

The course(s) I would like to enroll in are applicable towards my degree requirements (i.e., they will fulfill major/minor/general education requirements or fulfill elective credits that will be applied to the 120 credits required to graduate).

I am not applying for permission to take courses for which I have already earned credit.

I understand that once my request to take courses outside of MMC to fulfill outstanding degree requirements has been approved by the appropriate department chair(s), I need to submit proof of registration (registration/student schedule and bursar receipt) for those courses to the Office of Advisement and Registration.

I understand if I am taking an online course during the summer, the course must have a start and end date. The term’s end date must be before September 1st. Online courses must not have an open-ended timeline.

I also understand in order to graduate in September 01, Office of the Registrar must be in receipt of my official transcript(s) by August 31. A student copy of my transcript is not acceptable.

I understand that if I am requesting permission to take courses during the summer after my senior year to complete outstanding degree requirements and I wish to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, I must also submit the Special Request for Permission to Participate in Commencement Ceremony form by May 1st
