Darlene Castillo’23

Class of 2023, BA Business major with a concentration in Fashion Marketing.

” I would like to give a special thanks to Professor Chapman whose retail management class had real-life examples from her former experience at Ross. Professor Chapman’s class helped prepared me for my internship experience at Macy’s and allowed me to be ahead of the “learning curve” because of the real-world references that were used in class instead of simply using theories that often are outdated and/or not practical in their application.

During my post-performance review, I was offered a full-time position upon graduation.  Therefore in the Spring of 2023, I will officially start as an assistant buyer within their executive development program at Macy’s Department located in New York City. “

About

Darlene Castillo, a major in Business with a Fashion Marketing concentration, interned at the marketing agency MAP 360 (Marketing, Advertising, & Publicity) Collective as a Junior. Her two main projects entailed promoting the feature films Cruella and Muhammad Ali. Darlene’s responsibilities included identifying influencers who could promote the movies, and preparing influencer boxes to send. Of her internship experience at MAP 360, Darlene says, “Working as an intern at MAP 360 has provided me with a real-life experience of how a marketing agency functions. The work I do is considered micromarketing with a goal of getting the best outreach for projects.”

During the summer of 2022, Darlene participated in an internship at Macy’s Department Store, NYC in the role of an assistant buyer in prestige cosmetics. Darlene had the chance to interface with vendors such as Dior, Chanel, Lancome, YSL, Tom Ford, and Carolina Herrera, and gain valuable real-life experience. Darlene learned how to use various types of software programs that were utilized on a day-to-day basis for such things as inventory, analytics, and cost management.
