About

Eugene Rubin is the pre-health advisor at MMC’s Center for Health and Human Development. He began his professional career path as a high school biology teacher in New York City’s public school system, later becoming a school counselor and high school assistant principal. Desiring to broaden his experience in the provision of healthcare, Rubin obtained his registered professional nurse license after attending nursing school in the evening. He immediately began to provide direct patient care at several acute and long-term care hospitals in New York City, including the emergency department at Metropolitan Hospital Center; the surgical unit at The Brooklyn Hospital Center; and the HIV/AIDS unit at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coler (formerly known as Bird S. Coler Hospital). He held these positions while teaching college-level anatomy and physiology, medical ethics, medical terminology, phlebotomy, and other health classes to students aspiring to become healthcare providers.

Seeking to expand his healthcare experience further, he obtained a leadership position in the New York City teachers’ union, where he was in charge of assisting educators and their families affected by HIV illness and AIDS. His responsibilities were expanded at the union to assist educators with disabilities and those with medical and/or psychological issues.

Utilizing his background in biology, counseling, and nursing, Rubin sought to enter the field of public health and obtained a position with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation as a public health advisor. In that role, he assisted New York City residents who tested positive for COVID in obtaining resources and provided guidance on isolation and quarantine procedures.
