In Memoriam: Dr. Ghassan Shabaneh

We are greatly saddened to report the passing of Ghassan Shabaneh, Ph.D.

Dr. Shabaneh taught at Marymount Manhattan College in the Department of International Studies and, more recently, chaired the department. A highly respected colleague and scholar of the Middle East, Dr. Shabaneh was beloved in the Marymount Manhattan community. Students, faculty, and staff appreciated the sensitivity and care he demonstrated when teaching about and discussing the complicated issues inherent in Middle East politics. The MMC community now deeply mourns his loss and extends condolences to Dr. Shabaneh’s family and friends during this difficult time.

A memorial service is being held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 5:30 pm in the Regina Peruggi Room. More on the event here.

The Power of Prison Education: MMC Marks Anniversary at Bedford Hills, Celebrates Program Alums

Though MMC has been the sole degree-granting institution for the college program at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Bedford Hills, New York, since 1997, this year holds special meaning for the relationship: September marks the 20th anniversary of when the program was officially deemed an extension campus of MMC. We’ll be celebrating and sharing the stories of Bedford Hills students and alums, like Monica Szlekovics ’09, all year long.
