Valued Dance Department Advisory Board Member Opens Art Exhibit

“Life springs anew from ancient secrets buried under the earth. They may seem locked away forever, but through my camera lens, I found the key, opened the doors of memory, and stepped into a treasure trove.”  - Eleanor M. Imperato (’68) on her Photographic Essay exhibit, Doors of Memory/Porte della Memoria.

Eleanor M. Imperato (’68) is a long time supporter of Marymount Manhattan College Dance Department and is a freelance writer, poet, and photographer.  We are proud to share her newest accomplishment with our community; on October 8, 2015, the exhibit Doors of Memory/Porte della Memoria will open at the QCC Art Gallery, Queensborough Community College in Bayside, Queens.

Born in Avella, Italy, Imperato pays homage to her birthplace through a series of 25 photographs, with subjects of doors and windows relating to or symbolizing her ancestors and early childhood.  A beautiful complement to this visual art includes a book of prose, poetry, and photography.  The book, also entitled Doors of Memory/Porte della Memoria, reads in both Italian and English, representing not only Imperato’s birthplace, but also the country she now calls home.

The exhibit will be on display from October 8, 2015 - January 10, 2016.  We are delighted to recognize Imperato’s achievement, and encourage a visit to the QCC Art Gallery.
