Dance Student Takes First Place at Film Festival

As the 2014-2015 school year comes to a close, we are extremely proud and honored as a Dance Department to announce the success of a student, Kynan Welsh.

A junior in the department, Welsh presented a media work titled “METEOR” during Dancers at Work in Fall 2014.  His film was also presented during Honors Day of Spring 2015.  He’s a 1st Place Winner (College Category), CalArts Dance Camera West Emerging Artists Competition! The film festival runs from April 30th-May 5th.  A description for his work and a link to the film festival’s website may be found below.

“METEOR is inspired by the ambitious pursuit of human flight and limits of the body. I am influenced by Elizabeth Streb and her piece, ‘Human Fountain’ and I wanted to push the boundaries of what is possible by using editing techniques specific to film in order to create even more extreme, visceral, and impossible visual scenarios.”
