Mount Sinai’s KidZone TV is a state of the art, interactive production and internal broadcast studio within our children’s hospital. KidZone TV produces live programming at least twice a day, seven days a week, for pediatric patients and families throughout the Kravis Children’s Hospital on a dedicated channel. Mount Sinai’s KidZone TV offers national training and serves as a model for premiere in-house interactive broadcast programming for children’s hospitals worldwide.
KidZone TV Goals
- Educate children and families about the hospital environment
- Encourage self-expression and creativity
- Increase socialization opportunities for children and families who are isolated
- Create therapeutic diversion for patients and families experiencing stresses of hospitalization and illness
Hospitalized children, who are confined to their rooms, are able twice daily to tune in and participate in KidZone TV programming. Live entertainment includes musicians, actors, choirs, magicians, and science programs. We promote learning, socialization and creativity through popular interactive games like “Bingo”, “Name That Tune”, “Text Twist”, and other KidZone Trivia shows. KidZone TV Presents features entertainers and celebrities who lend excitement to daily programming for our hospitalized patients.
Children who are not confined to their rooms have the opportunity to participate within the studio as camera operators, storywriters, or hosts of the show, while others have the opportunity to view the program and participate by calling in and answering a question, creating a story or winning prizes. Dynamic pre-produced programming compliments live shows, providing 24/7 viewing.
Within a wide range of live broadcasting, pediatric patients can use their in-room phones to call in and participate in the live programming. Our unique in-house broadcast studio environment is coordinated within the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department and is staffed by professional television media experts including two producer / hosts, an engineer and video editor, a puppeteer, media consultants, and a managing production supervisor.
